Last year, the Dolphins were the recipients of several trade calls. Zach Sieler was among the players of interest to suitors, but no deal came close to taking place.
In 2026, Miami is in the early stages of a full-scale rebuild. A number of veterans are no longer in the fold, leaving Sieler as the longest-tenured member of the team. A trade could once again be something to watch for over the coming weeks, although the ninth-year defensive tackle still hopes to remain in place.
“I know people say rumors or talk whatever this time of year, but I’m here focused on playing games here, win as a Dolphin, man,” Sieler said (via transcript from the team). “And we’re doing a great thing… I want to win here as a Dolphin. I think [head coach Jeff] Hafley, Sully [general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan] have done an amazing job here. I’m excited to see this team growing and where we’re going and get some wins.”
Sullivan and Hafley wasted little time upon arriving in South Beach with respect to making notable roster moves. The likes of Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill were released, while Jaylen Waddle was traded away. A small number of core players received new contracts, though, while Sieler was retained. The 31-year-old said in June he aims to finish his career as a member of the Dolphins.
Under contract through 2029, the former seventh-rounder is owed a base salary of just $1.3MM for this season. An acquiring team could easily afford a trade in the short term as a result, although Sieler is due to carry cap charges above $20MM per season beginning in 2027. A $10MM injury guarantee for that year will vest in mid-March.
Sieler posted 10 sacks in 2023 and repeated that feat the following year. The Ferris State product has remained durable throughout his career, though his production dipped to 5.5 sacks in 2025. Sieler has remained a full-time starter early in the current campaign for the winless Dolphins, and no change in workload or scenery will be taking place if he has his way.
