The Eagles shockingly lost future Hall of Fame right tackle Lane Johnson to retirement on Tuesday. A day later, another of the Eagles’ offensive line stalwarts is exiting. The Eagles are trading center Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Ravens for a 2028 second-round selection and a 2027 fifth-rounder, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
This is the latest seismic change up front for the Eagles, who saw legendary offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland depart in February after a 13-year run. Johnson and Stoutland helped the Eagles to two Super Bowl titles during their careers, while Jurgens was also a key part of their championship-winning team in 2024. Jurgens made his first Pro Bowl that season, and the Eagles awarded the 2022 second-rounder a four-year, $68MM extension in April 2025.

Jurgens appeared in 14 games and made his second straight Pro Bowl last year, though he played through a back injury that required surgery. While the 27-year-old was ready for Week 1 this season, 2026 has not gone as expected for him or the Eagles’ O-line. Landon Dickerson went on IR after Week 1, leading the Eagles and new line coach Chris Kuper to shift Jurgens to left guard. Jurgens made three straight starts there before the trade, but he ranks as Pro Football Focus’ second-worst guard out of 74 qualifiers this year.
Expectations were that Jurgens would move back to center in Philadelphia at some point, but the team will instead go in an entirely different direction. Drew Kendall, a 2025 fifth-rounder, has made three starts at the pivot this year and will presumably handle the position going forward. Willie Lampkin, a 2025 UDFA, could make his first career start at left guard in a meeting with the Jaguars on Sunday. Dickerson will be eligible to return in Week 6, though it is unclear if he will be ready by then.
In trading Jurgens, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman added even more ammunition in the 2028 draft. The Eagles already had two first-rounders (one from the Patriots via the A.J. Brown trade) and their own second. In the meantime, they will take on approximately $4.76MM in dead money this year and $14.93MM next season, Jason Fitzgerald of Over the Cap relays.
On the other side, Ravens GM Eric DeCosta has pulled off his first significant trade since a swap with the Raiders for superstar defensive end Maxx Crosby fell through in March. The Ravens backed out over concerns regarding Crosby’s surgically repaired knee. Jurgens, who is currently in concussion protocol, is dealing with his own health problem. It was not enough to scuttle this agreement, however.
DeCosta expressed excitement about acquiring Jurgens, saying (via Jamison Hensley of ESPN): “Cam is a player we have long admired going all the way back to the draft process. He’s a young foundational piece along our offensive line – a great scheme and cultural fit who will contribute quickly in Baltimore.”
Jurgens is not expected to face the Falcons on Sunday, per Schefter, but he should make his Ravens debut in Week 6 against the AFC North rival Browns. The Ravens will likely start Vega Ioane at center for the second straight game this week, but that wasn’t what they had in mind when they drafted him 14th overall this past spring.
Ioane, who should be the Ravens’ long-term answer at right guard, has temporarily switched positions as a result of a rash of injuries. Potential starter Danny Pinter went down with a season-ending patella tear in August, leaving Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic as the next men up. But both Gwyn and Pocic succumbed to serious injuries in a Week 3 win over the Cowboys. Gwyn will miss two to three months with a fractured fibula, while Pocic is out for the foreseeable future as a result of a knee issue.
Baltimore added Pinter, Gwyn and Pocic in the offseason on cheap free agent deals – moves that came in response to the loss of elite center Tyler Linderbaum. Although Linderbaum was then coming off a third consecutive Pro Bowl season, the Ravens never came close to re-signing him. Linderbaum priced himself out of Baltimore on a three-year, $81MM pact with the Raiders, who essentially guaranteed the whole contract.
Seven months after Linderbaum walked out the door, the Ravens are turning to another established center to fill his void in the middle of their line. Jurgens, who is signed through 2029, will count just $945K against the Ravens’ cap this year, according to Spotrac. The number will climb to $4.91MM, $8.04MM and $12.04MM over the last three years of his contract.
