One week away from being the likely No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL draft, Fernando Mendoza took part in an exercise to build the perfect NFL quarterback, wide receiver and shared his go-to hype song before a game.

In a video with Sports Illustrated (starts at :19 mark), Mendoza’s list of attributes to build the ideal starting quarterback included Peyton Manning and Tom Brady:

As far as ideal receivers, Mendoza cited arguably the three best wideouts in NFL history: Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss and Jerry Rice.

“All those guys were big, fast, had secure hands and also great routes,” he explained. “They would get out of their breaks efficiently and with acceleration. I think those are the big four attributes to be a perfect wide receiver.”

Later in the video (starts at 4:45 mark), Mendoza admitted there are “a lot of perfect hype songs” to choose from. The Indiana star did pick “Erase Your Social” by Lil Uzi Vert as his go-to music choice.

“I think of myself as the underdog, and I still have an underdog mentality where I want to be the hunter, not the hunted. And it depicts coming from the bottom and essentially going to the top, and trying through that journey,” Mendoza said of the song.

There aren’t many surprising choices in Mendoza’s build for the perfect quarterback. You could fill out a list of the greatest players at the position in NFL history just with that group, and the skill sets he chose for each represents arguably the standout tool for all of them.

Mendoza will look to put himself in the category of those legends very soon. He is widely believed to be the top pick by the Las Vegas Raiders when the draft begins on April 23.
