Braxton Berrios suffered a foot injury on Sunday. The veteran receiver/returner is now in line for an absence from the Giants.
Berrios is heading to injured reserve, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. This move will ensure at least a four-game absence. The receiver spot will be shorthanded moving forward, while New York’s special teams will be impacted as well. Head coach John Harbaugh cautioned (via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News) that an IR move has not officially been made yet, adding more will be known about his injury tomorrow.
Berrios has totaled five kick returns and four punt returns so far this season. He was a gameday elevation from the practice squad for each of the first three weeks of the year. Players must be signed to the active roster after three elevations, though, and the Giants created a spot last week by releasing Odell Beckham Jr. That allowed for Berrios to be promoted from the practice squad.
Instead of a sustained run on the active roster, Berrios will now turn his attention to recovery. The 31-year-old (as of tomorrow) was an offensive regular during a portion of his Jets tenure early in his career, topping out at 471 scrimmage yards in 2021. Berrios earned first-team All-Pro honors for his work in the return game that year.
Since his Jets tenure ended, Berrios has seen time with the Dolphins (2023-24) and Texans (2025). He registered just six catches over the final two years of that span, but the former sixth-round pick saw usage in the return game. A similar role was in store to begin the current campaign, and that will likely be the case once again when Berrios is back to full strength.
In the meantime, the Giants could look to Charlie Jones as their new returner. He was recently signed from the practice squad to the active roster in a move which has proven to be especially prudent given Berrios’ injury. New York’s taxi squad still has Jalin Hyatt and Dalen Cambre as options to serve as a depth receiver replacement for the time being.
