Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell has been in the hospital since Sunday, when he suffered a serious neck injury during the team’s win over the Minnesota Vikings, 19-15.
The win obviously wasn’t the story of the day. Instead, the story was that Campbell was rushed to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Now, the linebacker has sent out his first public statement after the horrific injury. It’s a positive one and a message that’s filled with faith.
Jack Campbell shares encouraging update after serious neck injury
In a post shared on the Lions’ official social media accounts, Campbell shared an update. One of the biggest takeaways is that Campbell said he has full movement in his lower body and is continuing to make progress with movement in his upper body.
He also said that he’s optimistic about his recovery. While he acknowledges that there’s still work ahead, Campbell said he’s encouraged by how much progress he’s made in a short period of time. He’s taking things one day at a time.
“My family and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers, and support we’ve received over the past few days,” Campbell said. “It means more to us than words can express. I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time.
“I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better. My faith in God has never been stronger. I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan. I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we’ll get through this.”
He also thanked the athletic trainers and medical personnel who have been helping him.
“Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers,” Campbell added. “We feel the love, and I can’t thank everyone enough. God is good. My faith is strong.”
