Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett will report for the start of the team’s mandatory minicamp, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Josh Weinfuss.

Although Brissett will be present, Fowler and Weinfuss wrote that “it’s uncertain how much on-field work he will do.” By skipping Tuesday and Wednesday’s practices altogether, he would’ve faced a possible fine of $107,911.

The veteran signal-caller was absent at voluntary workouts earlier in the offseason as he tries to secure a new contract.

Brissett will earn a $4.9 million base salary in 2026, which is a bargain for somebody in line to be the starter. Gardner Minshew signed a one-year, $5.8 million deal to be the backup.

Weinfuss reported in May that Brissett and the Cardinals were “still not close to reaching an agreement on a reworked deal.” One source described the two sides as being “significantly” far apart.

Brissett is a career backup who’s a stopgap solution. Arizona will presumably reassess its QB situation in 2027, when the draft should provide more options than this year’s class did.

Head coach Mike LaFleur could eventually give a look to third-round pick Carson Beck at some point too. In a rebuilding year, the coaching staff will want to see what the former Georgia and Miami star can do with extended reps before deciding on a long-term course of action.

Simply put, the Cardinals don’t have a compelling incentive to sign Brissett to a multiyear extension.

The 33-year-old is justified in feeling like he’s underpaid, however. He threw for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 14 appearances with the Cardinals in 2025. Spotrac pegs his market value at $10.9 million.

Especially when Arizona has ample cap space, finding some middle ground with Brissett is the likeliest outcome.
