Injury was added to insult for the Dallas Cowboys regarding their 24-16 upset home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that dropped the Cowboys to 2-3 on Thursday night, as it was clear during the evening that Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was struggling through some sort of lower-body issue.

During Friday morning’s edition of the ESPN “SportsCenter” program, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared an update on Lamb’s status.

Cowboys get positive CeeDee Lamb injury update

“My understanding is not a major injury for CeeDee Lamb,” Rapoport said. “It is more of a quad bruise than anything else. You saw him on the sideline (Thursday night). He was grimacing. He was clearly in pain and did not finish the game, but he did come in and out of the game late.”

What was previously advertised as the “greatest offense there is” struggled with Lamb playing through his issue, as the Cowboys produced only one touchdown drive against what had been a winless Buccaneers side following the first scripted drive of the game. Meanwhile, Lamb tallied just two receptions for nine yards on Thursday night.

To compare, Lamb recorded 189 receiving yards on a career-high 17 catches and a game-winning touchdown in Dallas’ 34-30 win over the Houston Texans on Oct. 4.

Could CeeDee Lamb miss time due to discomfort?

ESPN stats show that Lamb enters the weekend leading the NFL with 39 receptions, 51 targets and 507 receiving yards for the season. He tallied four touchdown catches over the campaign’s first four weeks before he was hobbled throughout Thursday’s game.

Lamb and his teammates will have some extra time to get right before the Cowboys play a “Sunday Night Football” game at the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 18. It sounds like the Cowboys expect Lamb will at least be in the lineup for that contest.

“So CeeDee Lamb, dealing with pain, not considered to be major,” Rapoport continued. “He should be able to return after the long weekend…and for the Cowboys’ next game.”

As for the 2-2 Packers, they will host the rival Chicago Bears (3-1) this coming Sunday. As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Green Bay as a 1.5-point home underdog for that game.
