When the Tennessee Titans selected Cam Ward to be their quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick last season, it was obvious that this guy was going to at least try to be the face of the franchise. It wasn’t a move they took lightly. The Titans have put a lot behind Ward, and he’s shown some promise.
Ward started in all 17 games during his rookie season in Tennessee. He completed 59.8% of his passes for 3,169 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had seven interceptions. It was a mixed showing, but the Titans also didn’t give him too solid an offense to lead.
Now, with Ward gearing up for another season, the Titans are being encouraged to cut one of their other quarterbacks.
Will Levis could be on his way out of the Titans
Moe Moton of Bleacher Report has unleashed a feature naming players that he thinks could get cut soon.
“As many as 1,184 players will be released, return their playbooks and attempt to secure practice-squad spots,” Moton notes, because of the roster deadline on Sunday.
Moton sees the Titans sending away quarterback Will Levis.
As Moton notes, Levis recently commented to reporters that he still thinks he can be a starter in the NFL. But his production is iffy.
“Levis, 27, may not be lacking in confidence, but his performance tells another story,” Moton notes. “In those 21 starts, he threw just 21 touchdown passes. His passer rating barely cracked 80, and he committed multiple turnovers. Ward is the unquestioned starter in Tennessee, while Mitchell Trubisky is a veteran backup with nine seasons and 57 starts under his belt. Levis faces a difficult path to a roster spot.”
So, it may be time for the Titans to finally part ways with Levis. Time will tell as the weeks flesh out.
