Ever since the Cleveland Browns drafted quarterback Shedeur Sanders last year, the media just won’t leave this guy alone. But, that’s for good reason, because Sanders is quite the story.
Sanders was selected during the fifth round of the NFL draft with the Browns’ No. 144 overall pick. That was way later than expected, so Sanders’ performance with the Browns quickly became a focal point of headlines and gameday analysis.
Now, Sanders is back for a second year, but he’s battling for the quarterback slot with veteran Deshaun Watson, who’s back after a lengthy injury.
So, who will be the Browns’ starting quarterback this season? One NFL analyst is giving the nod to Sanders.
Browns could crown Shedeur Sanders starting quarterback
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report lays out eight bold predictions for the 2026-27 NFL training camp in a feature published on Friday. Bold predictions are always fun, but they’re also, well, bold. Unexpected.
One of them is that Sanders will win the starting quarterback slot.
“It’s just going to be too hard for Watson to suddenly revive his career after so much time off the pedestal, and Sanders has the tools to become something awesome in this league,” Gagnon says in the feature. “I’m not convinced he’ll put it all together, but I believe he’ll make it impossible this summer for the Browns to turn away from his high ceiling.”
So, it’s more about Watson not being able to meet the needs of the team than Sanders being a breakout star. But, it’s still good news for Sanders. He may have the chance to prove himself this season.
