San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk must not realize he’s lighting more “money on fire.”

Aiyuk has been publicly campaigning for the 49ers to release him and for the Washington Commanders to sign him throughout the offseason, posting several videos on social media. He shared another clip on Saturday. It won’t help his cause.

Brandon Aiyuk pleads for Commanders to sign him in another bizarre post

Aiyuk posted a three-and-a-half-minute video to his YouTube channel, explaining his status with the Niners. He said he never plans to enter the team facility again, except on Oct. 19 when San Francisco hosts Washington in a “Monday Night Football” matchup.

Aiyuk then blamed his agent, Ryan Williams, for being the “source of his problems between himself and the 49ers.”

Aiyuk said he has fired Williams. The NFL Players Association database, however, lists Williams as his agent. He probably didn’t file the paperwork needed to confirm the termination.

He hasn’t submitted the documents needed for reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list, either. This list includes players who left their teams without retiring. Aiyuk has been avoiding the team since he suffered an ACL/MCL/meniscus tear in his right knee in October 2024. San Francisco can’t trade or release him until he petitions the league.

Aiyuk still insists the team, not him, is the problem. He said 49ers general manager John Lynch recently came to his house and apologized for the actions of 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, whom he said has the temperament of a “toddler.”

Aiyuk, who signed a four-year, $120M contract before the 2024 season, should stop spending so much time on social media and start the paperwork. That would expedite the process and finally allow the WR to get what he wants.

But it’s unclear when he’ll do that. Until the 2023 second-team All-Pro does, he’ll continue to create headaches for both clubs. He’ll also continue hurting his chances of signing anywhere.
