Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell is prioritizing herself as she prepares to hit free agency.
“I have to be selfish,” Mitchell said Saturday, per ESPN’s Kareem Copeland. “I think that’s where I am in my career … what I probably need and what’s probably best for me. So I have to be selfish in that room.
“But I think, ultimately, being on the Fever and being a part of an organization that does come with a lot of ups and downs, what factors in and what is important for me is, obviously, having a good chemistry on and off the floor. I’ve only been with one team my entire career, so it’s all kind of like figuring this out. It’s hard, man.”
Indiana’s 2026 season came to an end after it was eliminated by the Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday night.
The Fever are now preparing to navigate through the offseason, with Mitchell set to become a free agent.
She’s spent all nine years of her career as a member of the organization after Indiana selected her with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA draft. Mitchell has blossomed into a top offensive option for the Fever, earning All-Star nods in each of her past four seasons.
In 2026, the 30-year-old ranked No. 2 in the league with her scoring average of 24.7 points per game. She also recorded 2.8 assists, 1.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals on a nightly basis while shooting a career-high 50.9 percent from the field and 45.0 percent from three-point territory.
The Fever owned a plus-8.7 net rating with Mitchell on the court during the regular season compared to a minus-0.1 net rating with her off the floor (via WNBA.com).
As Indiana looks to build around its young duo of Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston in order to contend for a fourth consecutive playoff berth in 2027, the future of Mitchell is something to monitor.
