Mandatory minicamp is underway for the Philadelphia Eagles, and Jalen Carter‘s status was one of the main talking points on day one.

The star defensive tackle is one of the biggest candidates for a contract extension, and while he was in attendance, he didn’t participate in team drills.

The mere fact that he’s there is a good sign, but his “hold-in” might suggest he’s putting pressure on the organization to get a deal done.

According to former Eagles linebacker Ike Reese, it should be just a matter of time before they find common ground.

Jalen Carter is at minicamp, but he’s not practicing

“You have to think there is [a contract] coming,” Reese said on 94WIP. “He’s going to have to practice eventually. He probably went through individual drills and just sat out of everything else. It is definitely notable. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. I don’t know if I would do it until the ink is dry.”

Spotrac projects Carter’s contract extension to be for four years and $107.6 million.

He’s certainly earned top dollar for his skills and defensive contributions, though his character and demeanor might raise major doubts about how he’ll handle himself after securing a lofty payday.

So far, the Georgia star has logged 108 tackles, including 25 for a loss, 37 quarterback hits and 13.5 sacks in 43 games for Nick Sirianni’s team, per Football Reference.

He has the potential to be the most disruptive interior defender in the game, but, again, with concerns about his work ethic and professionalism, the Eagles will be wise to work out a deal that doesn’t leave them on the hook for a lot of money if things don’t go well.
