Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs cruised to a 133-95 win over Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of their second-round playoff series on Wednesday night.
The series is now tied 1-1.
Wembanyama finished with 19 points, 15 rebounds and two assists while shooting 7-of-15 from the field. He continued to thrive defensively, picking up two blocks and one steal.
As for Edwards, he scored 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting in 24 minutes on the floor.
Fans and pundits were impressed with San Antonio’s lopsided win.
The Spurs set the tone early in the game, outscoring the Timberwolves 24-17 in the first quarter.
Minnesota was only able to record 35 points at halftime, representing the team’s lowest-scoring half of the season.
San Antonio held a 59-35 edge through two quarters.
The Spurs didn’t show any signs of slowing down once the third quarter started, leading by as many as 47 points during the second half to wrap up the blowout win and avoid falling into a 2-0 series deficit.
The Spurs were stout defensively and routinely pushed the pace after missed shots, finishing with 29 fast-break points compared to just five for the Timberwolves.
Stephon Castle put together an impressive performance for San Antonio in the victory, amassing 21 points in 24 minutes while shooting 6-of-10 from the field.
The Spurs won with a balanced scoring effort, as seven different players ended the game with at least 10 points.
Minnesota struggled to find any offensive consistency against Wembanyama and San Antonio’s perimeter defenders, compiling 39.8/30.0/51.6 shooting splits as a team.
